Cannabidiol (CBD) For Anxiety

What Is Anxiety?

According to the APA, anxiety in people is characterized by tension, worried thoughts, and physical changes like increased blood pressure.

People with anxiety-related disorders usually have recurring intrusive thoughts or concerns, and they may avoid certain situations out of worry. They may also have a wide range of physical symptoms, such as sweating, trembling, dizziness, or a rapid heartbeat.

How Can CBD Help Anxiety?

CBD may help minimize symptoms associated with various types of anxiety disorders, such as:

Panic Disorders

Panic disorders are caused by excessive amounts of stress hormones (cortisol) which trigger the release of endocannabinoids (anandamide). Endocannabinoids bind to cannabinoid receptors (CB1, CB2), triggering physiological responses. Cannabidiol (CBD) helps lower cortisol levels to help calm anxiety and panic attacks.

Social Anxiety Disorder

Social anxiety disorder can be complicated to live with, and sufferers often feel isolated from their friends and loved ones. CBD has been shown to positively affect social situations by helping reduce the negative effects caused by the condition itself. This relief helps individuals maintain a presence in an environment with many people.

Anxiety Caused by Depression

Research studies show that depression and anxiety often go hand in hand. Given that correlation, it makes sense how CBD could help people who are depressed with their symptoms too. The chemical compound in CBD stimulates serotonin receptors to help with anxiety, this increase in serotonin may also assist with depression at the same time.

Agoraphobia

Agoraphobia causes people to fear being out in public places. With the Covid pandemic, there has been an increase in this type of anxiety. CBD has the therapeutic benefit of calming the mind and body, which may help those suffering from the condition face their fears.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) occurs when someone experiences a traumatic event and suffers extreme stress and anxiety. Studies show that CBD helps lower levels of Corticotropin-Releasing Hormone (CRH), which reduces symptoms of PTSD.

How Does Cannabidiol (CBD) Work?

CBD works by interacting with cannabinoid receptors, known as CB1 receptors and CB2 receptors. These receptors are present throughout the entire human organism, restoring balance and promoting overall wellness.

It’s believed that all of these receptors interact with each other to promote homeostatic balance within the body. By binding to them, CBD can help health conditions such as pain relief, inflammation, blood pressure issues, anxiety, and more!

CBD Oral Dose Guide

Every human body is different. It’s hard to pinpoint an effective dose when starting; however, we suggest starting with 1 full dropper for a baseline. A full dropper is a 1 oz (1 milliliter) dose.

Nature’s Gem CBD Oils do not contain THC; therefore, you will not have a psychoactive effect when taking it.

How to Take CBD Oil

Step 1: Fill up the eye-dropper that came with your CBD oil to the top line on the dropper or your desired strength.

Step 2. Squeeze the liquid under your tongue and hold for 30-90 seconds. Swallow any remaining oil.

The CBD oil is absorbed into your bloodstream through the mucous membranes under the tongue, making this rapid absorption method in the bloodstream. Many people feel more relaxed within 15-20 minutes, if not sooner. (Note: If you choose to use a different method, such as ingesting a CBD gummy, be aware that it may take longer to take effect because it has to go through the digestive process.)

Step 3:  If you are not feeling relaxed after 45 minutes, take another dosage. If it means you may need more CBD at this point, that is OK!

Step 4: Don’t be afraid to change your dosage. The above are suggested guidelines to begin with. Your body and life events change daily. Therefore, it’s natural that the amount of CBD oil you may need to take may be higher or lower, depending on the day. For example, on days you don’t feel anxious – there is no need to take one full dose. Consider taking 1/2 a dropper or none that day. Use it depending on how you feel – that day/moment.
